More than Good Enough
Since I was so negative about 'the silly witch' game, I thought I owed a big WOW for this game. The storyline taps nicely into many older games, and the story feels both new and old. The puzzles are very demanding, some taking me much longer than usual. The multi-level puzzles are especially engaging, the graphics are amazing, artistic, and while the HOGs in any game are not my favorite, the drawings here are very compelling. After staying up too late last night playing, a rainy day here promises I may make the bonus game. Really worth the $$$, a long, engaging, challenging game.
Ok, until the bonus...
This game was really good mechanically. Custom settings, decent map, ok voice-overs and pretty good graphics (hence, the 2 stars). My only problem with the game itself was how dark it was. I probably should not have bought it after the free trial, but I was intrigued. Normally I only by fantasy, medieval, and sci-fi games. I tend to stay away from horror themed games, but I guess this one sucked me in… So, not only was the subject matter a bit dark for me, but the scenes themselves were very dark and therefore very hard on my eyes.
But what really bothered me about this game was the Bonus chapter. *Possible Spoiler Alert!!!* Anyone who is a parent will find the ending very dark, depressing and not a little macabre. Just so you know, the bonus chapter is in no way related to the main story. They both have a Revenant, but the stories have totally different characters that are not related. I almost feel like the developers are not aware that a lot of people who play their games have children and/or grandkids. I was not amused...
This is actually my first review ever, that is how much it affected me.
I realize that everyone is different, my review is for people like me who prefer a happy ending!
Happy gaming, y'all!!!
The Revenant’s Hunt
While I mostly rate the Big Fish games that I purchase, which is well into the 100s, and throughout many years, I rarely review them. However, this game definitely deserves a review!
The Revenant’s Hunt is a part of the Mystery Case Files, a series made by Eipex. There are some of the usual touches that I have come to prefer now, such as, a journal, teleportation, custom settings, as well as, a few collectible-type components (albeit, they’re not exactly “collectibles”, but rather “seek and find”). With that said, I must say that this is, by far, one of the worst games in this series... and quite possibly by Eipex!
From the beginning to the end, I felt as though the devs were in a hurry to release “something”, and call it a HOAG. It weighs much too heavily on HO and mini games, in which nearly every HO scene is revisited, and very little in the way of adventure. There was not enough sensical interaction with the characters and scenes to make this a solid, or enjoyable game. The words “confusion” and “confusing” seem to be a common factor among some reviews, and I could not agree more! In fact, had I not hastily purchased this game, I would have deleted it within the first 10 minutes of gameplay.
My conclusion: “The Revenant’s Hunt” is a complete waste of time, and it’s definitely not worth buying; even if, it were on sale for .99¢.
My advice: play before you pay.
